Ski Jumps

Martin Schmitt, Christoph Duffner, Hans-Jörg Jäkle, Alexander Herr or Georg Hettich are well-known ski jumpers. But did you know that all of them come from Holiday Land? Thanks to the excellent training conditions they have here, they have joined the leading ranks of international ski jumping.
An example of the good job that is don in all towns in Holiday Land is the ski sports boarding school in Furtwangen, where young people are given the chance to combine school and athletic career. But all of them did their first major jumps on the two big ski jumps in our Holiday Land, the Langenwaldschanze in Schonach and the Adlerschanze in Schönwald.

Langenwaldschanze in Schonach

The first ski jump was built in 1924. Reconstructions and new constructions were made between 1934 and 1979. It is possible to visit the ski jump including tower. (Every Wednesday from 14:00 – 16:00, or on request, Tel. +49(0)7722/964810).
The approach length of the ski jump is 92 m. The landing slope incl. runout has a length of 220 m and the tower has a height of 38 m. The staircase up to the start comprises 210 steps.

Major sports events take place here every year, e.g. the Black Forest Cup, FIS World Cup Nordic Combined on the first weekend in January.

Being inhabitants of Schonach, Hans-Peter Pohl, Nordic Combined gold medallist of 1988, as well as Alexander Herr, team world champion of 2001, and Hansjörg Jäckle, who among other things won the gold medal in 1994 in Lillehammer and the silver medal in Nagano with the team, already jumped down this ski jump.

In the next few years, the competition for the Black Forest Cup is likely to become very exciting, since our local champion Georg Hettich has joined the leading ranks with his silver medal at the Olympic games in 2002 and the silver medal in the World Championship 2003.

Adlerschanze in Schönwald

The annual highlight at the ski jump Adlerschanze in Schönwald is the FIS Ladies Grand Prix. Visits can be arranged by the Tourist Information office Schönwald Tel. +49(0)7722/860832.
